In this new book, beautifully illustrated by Dabin Han, debut author Honey Moga tells the true story of Neil, a plucky cat who came to live at Great Dixter having escaped war-torn Kabul. Incorporating the history of the region, its moguls and conquerors, as well as the story of how Neil came to be rescued and brought to Dixter to live out her days, Moga’s book takes readers on an inspiring and uplifting journey. Neil, a delightful female cat named for the courage she exhibited (Neil means ‘champion’ in Irish), still resides happily at Great Dixter today.
The story of Neil, the stray cat who escaped war-torn Afghanistan to live in one of England’s most famous gardens.

A mother of nine, Honey Moga’s lifelong dream was to be an author. After raising her children on her own, she finally put words to paper, inspired by her son, Gregory, who told her how he had visited Great Dixter and met Neil. Moga died in Chicago in 2016 but spent her final days enchanted by a cat who lived thousands of miles away. Writing and publishing Neil’s story was her final wish.
